Jim is is a great teacher. He has an uncanny ability to sense you need a pep talk before true frustration sets in, or to recognize you can do something more challenging before you realize it yourself. Drumset lessons (starting out, at least) involve working out of two different books. However, Jim will often combine the written exercises in the books with an exercise of his own. It keeps things fresh and keeps things from becoming too predictable. it also helps give a taste of other aspects of the drumset for those of us that are unsure about wandering 'off script'. I will also add that Jim is very enthusiastic. There are some teachers out there that have a "been there, done that" attitude. Not so with Jim - you can tell he loves what he does.

I have been taking lessons with Jim for a couple months now and have to say, he is the RARE combination of an excellent drummer and outstanding teacher. He exudes patience and positivity. My personal goal is to become a better drummer and I can actually hear myself achieving this goal. Lessons with Jim also feels therapeutic, I’m 43 years old and the combination of playing drums and Jim’s instruction leaves me feeling rejuvenated and positive after every lesson. Can’t recommend enough!!

My dad and I took drum lessons from Jim throughout the years and we always benefitted and gleaned much from his teaching. Jim has much experience in the world of drumming and his commitment and passion for drumming was certainly inspiring. I always enjoyed my weekly lessons with him and he gave that necessary push I needed to develop into a better drummer. He's an excellent drummer and super nice guy. If you're looking to get into drumming or want to develop your current drumming skills this is the place to go.
