Working with Joel over the past year has been a blast! Retired, and returning to piano (after only 2 years of study 40 years ago!!), Joel has nurtured me along so patiently. He 'gets' my musical interests and recommends, or arranges, pieces that are great for me. As he's seen me struggle to get my left and right hands working together, he even shared a video of himself working on an unfamiliar instrument, just to share in the 'this is really hard' experience. If you're considering starting (or coming back to) piano, now is the time and Joel is the guy! If I can do it, you can, too!

My son has shown AMAZING growth since starting at Pierce Piano! Joel does a wonderful job selecting songs that my little guy will enjoy, which has been SO helpful in keeping him engaged. My kiddo began working w/ Joel as a 2nd grader in the winter of 2020, and he had only few months of in-person lessons before everything went remote. We moved away from Maine that spring, but decided to keep working with Joel through online lessons (rather than finding someone locally to see in-person) because my son likes him so much. HIGHLY recommend!

It is a rare pianist who can also accompany. Joel is that pianist! His solo playing is incomparable and yet he collaborates with the musician he accompanies. It becomes a supportive duet. His teaching style is kind and encouraging, with just the right touch of humor. As Joel enlightens his students he creates a feeling of being an equal. There is no hint of superiority. A very comfortable learning environment. I would travel far and wide to work with Joel again.
