I've taken lessons from Dave for a few years, both bass guitar and music recording/production, and online (during covid) as well as in person. Dave is a fantastic teacher who meets his students where they're at and strikes a balance between keeping it fun and teaching you the right way. He indulged my desire to learn some music theory and exposed me to the fundamentals of bass playing in different genres (blues, funk, reggae, etc.). He has a deep knowledge of theory and the ability to connect it to what we hear in popular music. Dave is also a super nice, laidback guy, as well as a good communicator and very professional. Couldn't ask for anything more in a music teacher. Recommend all around!

Dave is an awesome music teacher! He has taught my daughter both bass and guitar and we have been thrilled with the lessons and how Dave works with our daughter. His musical expertise is of course off the charts but Dave also has a gift for communicating with kids, fostering and cultivating their knowledge and love of music. Dave is flexible and makes sure to mix in list theory with learning fun songs, riffs etc. we couldn’t be happier with Dave and recommend Small Steps highly!

Our 15-year old son has taken lessons from Dave for over six years at this point, starting with bass and adding electric guitar a couple years ago. Our 13-year old daughter also took acoustic guitar lessons from him for about a year before deciding her passion was singing. I can't say enough good things about Dave! He is an exceptionally talented musician and has taught our son a ton about playing the guitar, music theory, and all the stuff that normally goes with music lessons. But he has also been outstanding at mentoring our son in what it really means to invest in a passion. I actually said this to Dave recently — he imbues music lessons with weight by insisting that students take them seriously or it's not worth his time, but he also balances it with kindness and support that cre
